We are thrilled to partner with and provide support for Book ‘em, a local charitable organization that works toward a more literate Nashville. Book'em helps economically disadvantaged children, from birth through high school, discover the joy and value of reading through book ownership and enthusiastic volunteers.
We work with Book ‘em help get books into the hands of underprivileged children, by donating a book for every piece of jewelry we sell.
We also assist with their Book Drive initiative, collecting new and like-new book donations at many of our trunk shows, pop-up shops and other local events.
“This is an extremely important initiative in our community, and one that I have a strong personal connection with,” shares Willa Jean founder Kate Texada Kirven. “In middle income neighborhoods, the ratio of books per child is 13 to 1; in low-income neighborhoods, the ratio is 1 age-appropriate book for every 300 children. Learning this floored me. I want to do what I can to help change that.”
“What I love most about about Book ‘em is that the organization goes beyond donating books. The people who volunteer, as well as those behind the scenes, are passionate about their community, about forming relationships with the students their classrooms, about making a real and lasting impact in a child’s life.”
“When you buy a Willa Jean piece, you’re also providing a book for a child in need. Thank you for helping us support our community, and for investing in a better, brighter Nashville.”
